My Life as a Hospitality Major

My Life as a Hospitality Major
The Hospitality industry has clearly taken a toll this year, as anyone else can agree. At the beginning of this year, I was worried about not finding a job for the summer. I originally wanted to work at a hotel, but I knew that finding a job there was going to be difficult. I applied to over 30 jobs at hotels, restaurants, and even marketing companies, but I realized that I could take a different route. I did not get any responses for months and I had interviews for 2 jobs, but they chose another candidate. Instead of being discouraged, I referred back to my passion for food and beverage and I thought that I don’t need to be tied down to hotels. I knew that learning in the classroom will only teach me the basics of hospitality, which I am already familiar with. I needed to get firsthand experience into what my career will look like and I can say that I have! My current program at Rosen College is pretty competitive and it is a tight-knit group of students in one of the biggest universities in the world. I always underestimate myself, which has been a flaw of mine for a while. But, I often refer back to the fact that even though some people are good in the classroom in hospitality classes, they need to have the personality that is required of the job. Fortunately, I highly value my academics and love being in the classroom, in addition to meeting new people, socializing, and working in customer-oriented environments. I can say that I am confident in my abilities to consider myself a person that is suited for this industry!
